How to use the Unix Timestamp Converter
- Paste timestamps or dates, one per line, or type now.
- Leave the unit on Detect, or force Seconds or Milliseconds if a value is ambiguous.
- Choose how dates without a time zone are read: as UTC or as your local time.
- Copy the results or save them as a text file.
How values are read
- Unit detection
- Numbers below 100,000,000,000 are seconds (up to the year 5138), then milliseconds, microseconds from 10^14 and nanoseconds from 10^17. Negative values are dates before 1970.
- Dates
- ISO 8601 dates such as 2026-11-04T10:00:00Z or 2026-11-04T14:00:00+04:00 keep their offset. Dates without an offset are read as UTC by default, or as local time if you switch that off.
- Local time
- Local time uses this device’s time zone and daylight-saving rules, shown with its UTC offset.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Unix timestamp?
The number of seconds since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC, not counting leap seconds. JavaScript and many APIs use milliseconds instead.
Why does my timestamp show the wrong year?
It is probably in the other unit. A 13-digit number is usually milliseconds; a 10-digit number is seconds. Set the unit explicitly to compare.
What about the year 2038 problem?
Signed 32-bit seconds end at 2147483647 (19 January 2038). This tool uses 64-bit values, so later dates convert correctly.
Limitations and edge cases
- Only your device’s time zone is shown for local time. Converting between other time zones is planned in the Time Zone Converter.
- Fractions of a millisecond are dropped.
- Supported range is about ±275,000 years around 1970.
